THE GIVING TREE- AFTER READING ACTIVITY- WE ARE MAKING A GIVING TREE

MATERIALS: Brown, Green and Red cardboard, blue-tac, scissors

Rebuilding the Giving Tree helps the children understand how important it is to give back to others. Make a brown construction paper stump; tape it to the wall. Then have each child make a branch, leaves or apples from construction paper, so they can rebuild the Giving Tree.

Instruct each child to write things on the paper that the boy could have done for the tree. Ideas may include giving it water, offering it plant vitamins, planting the seeds from its apples, reading it stories and talking to it. Have each child tape their branches and leaves to the stump to rebuild the Giving Tree. Talk about how and why these things would have helped the tree and how it feels when people one another. Ask how they could help others and make them feel good, too.
